2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8

The new C8 Corvette is an engineering moonshot, a marketing leap of faith, and a statement about what an American sports car can truly be.

Although the engine is in a new location—now behind the passenger compartment instead of in front of it—it remains a 6.2-liter V-8, albeit one making 495 horsepower. An eight-speed dual-clutch automatic (a Corvette first) is the sole transmission. It is controlled either by a push-button gear selector on the center console or by using two large steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. There will not be a manual transmission. Chevrolet claims the Corvette will have a zero-to-60-mph time of less than 3.0 seconds when equipped with the Z51 Performance package.

The 2020 Corvette delivers 495 horsepower† and 470 lb.-ft. of torque† making it the most powerful production Stingray ever and giving it a top speed on a race track of 194 mph.

The C8’s stout center tunnel, like the rest of the structure, is aluminum. While a few special versions of the sixth-gen Corvette and the entire seventh generation used aluminum structures, they still had traditional frames with parallel rails running from fore to aft. The C8 does away with the rails in favor of an advanced backbone structure that hangs the front suspension off a subframe.

This powerful machine is equipped with a serious command center. From the latest Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system† with 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen to the ingenious available Front Lift, every feature was included to improve your drive. With technologies like The Performance Data Recorder and color Head-Up Display, the car just may help improve your driving skills too.

The C8, in ways different and better than the C7 before it, will likely be a remarkable car.
