Before the winter season begins, we suggest bringing your vehicle in for a routine service appointment. Our team of technicians will change your oil, rotate your tires, install snow tires, top off your wiper fluid and other engine fluids, and check to ensure your heating system works. We’re also able to install new windshield wipers if you’re due for a new pair, replace any other part of your vehicle that’s past its prime, align your front end and install an automatic starter. We also recommend keeping extra wiper fluid, gas and salt in your vehicle, just in case you run into any inclement weather that causes you get stuck without visibility or horsepower.

St. Albans Winter Carnival

The weekend kicks off with Fireworks in Taylor Park at dusk, followed by a full day of familiy activities on Sunday, including a nature walk with Bird Queen Bridget Butler, sugar on snow, JAS entertainment, horse drawn sleigh rides, the Flag Football Snow Bowl and the duct tape derby.

GUIDE TO VERMONT SKI RESORTS

STOWE MOUNTAIN RESORT, Stowe

Stowe’s roots as a skiing destination date back to 1912, when Swedish families moved here and brought their skis to get around town. A little more than two decades later, Stowe Mountain developed the ski area. Today it covers two different mountains: Mount Mansfield, the state’s highest peak, and Spruce Peak. JAY PEAK RESORT, Jay

At the very northern tip of Vermont sits one of New England’s most legendary skiing destinations. Located in the villages of Jay and Montgomery Center, and home to the most snowfall of any ski resort in the Northeast, Jay Peak offers 78 alpine trails and a vertical drop of more than 2,100 feet. When it’s time to take a break from snowy adventures, warm up — and catch a wave! — at the resort’s sprawling indoor water park.

SUGARBUSH RESORT, Warren

Set in the heart of the Mad River Valley town of Warren and spread across two mountains (Lincoln Peak and Mount Ellen), Sugarbush has 111 trails for all skill levels. Its vertical drop of 2,600 feet is the second largest in New England, after nearby Killington (3,050).

KILLINGTON MOUNTAIN, Killington

Affectionately referred to as “the Beast” by skiers, Killington boasts a vertical drop that ranks as the second largest on the East Coast. Don’t miss the Stash, the resort’s all-natural terrain park, whose features include a 500-foot-long Superpipe with 18-foot walls. When you’re ready for a little après-ski action, check out Killington’s lively restaurant and bar scene.

SMUGGLERS’ NOTCH RESORT, Jeffersonville

Rated the No. 1 overall resort in the eastern U.S. and Canada by the readers of Ski magazine in 2017, Smugglers’ Notch Resort has long been one of New England’s premier family-friendly skiing destinations. Why? For starters, there are miles of easy terrain for newbies to find their ski legs. Weekly activities include a Monday night bonfire, family karaoke, and family tubing. For those in need of a more black-diamond experience, take up the challenge (and the gnarly runs) atop Smugs’s signature peak, Madonna Mountain.

OKEMO MOUNTAIN RESORT, Ludlow

Set in the southern Vermont town of Ludlow, Okemo Mountain was born as a community-run ski hill that eventually morphed into a top-tier four-season resort. Come winter, Okemo’s 2,200-foot vertical drop and 121 trails offer something for every kind of skier.

STRATTON MOUNTAIN RESORT, South Londonderry

The highlights at this legendary winter destination include 97 trails, more than 100 acres of glades, and a network of prized terrain parks, as well as the fastest set of lifts in the East. Stratton is consistently rated by Ski magazine as one of the country’s top 10 resorts for snow, grooming, and lifts, among other categories.

FRONT PEDESTRIAN BRAKING

If the system detects that a pedestrian is directly ahead and a  collision is imminent, and the driver has not already applied the brakes, the system can alert the driver and may even automatically apply the brakes to help the driver avoid or reduce the harm caused by the collision.  Performance is limited at night.

FORWARD AUTOMATIC BRAKING

If the system detects that a front-end collision situation is imminent while following a detected vehicle, and the driver has not already applied the brakes, the system can automatically apply the brakes to help reduce the collision’s severity. The system may even help avoid the collision at very low speeds.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL – CAMERA

This feature uses a forward-looking camera to enhance regular cruise control. The cruise control speed is automatically adapted in order to maintain a driver-selected gap between the vehicle and vehicles detected ahead while the driver steers, reducing the need for the driver to frequently brake and accelerate.

REAR VISION CAMERA

When in Reverse, this feature provides the driver with a view of the scene directly behind the vehicle on a center stack or inside rearview mirror display to help them park and avoid crashing into nearby objects during low-speed maneuvering.

HIGH-DEFINITION (HD) SURROUND VISION

Relative to the analog Surround Vision, this feature provides the driver with a higher resolution digital “bird’s-eye” view of the scene around the vehicle on a center stack display, and adds several additional views. It can help the driver park and avoid crashes with nearby objects during low-speed maneuvering.

REAR CAMERA MIRROR

Compared to a traditional inside rearview mirror, this rearview mirror display provides a wider, less obstructed field of view to assist when driving, changing lanes and checking for vehicles and traffic conditions.

This year, we’ll be presenting the Timothy Bovat Civic Involvement Award at the mixer. The recipients will be announced soon 🙂

The Civic Involvement Award is presented annually to an individual or group whose investment in the local community goes beyond the norm. The Chamber, in conjunction with the Bovat Family, has been presenting this award to members of our community since 2000.

Waterbury Winterfest 2019
January 26, 2019 – February 3, 2019 Free for most events. Some require RSVP or have a cost

Waterbury Winterfest is a 10-day festival featuring indoor and outdoor venues, traditional and not-so-traditional events. There’s snowshoeing, skating, and skiing, as you might expect. We also offer warm venues. Think beer trivia at one of Waterbury’s local pubs, a game show at the American Legion, a felting workshop at the library or let the kids heat up outside at the Youth Snow Soccer game.

His dream car from our lot would be the new Chevy Silverado Trail Boss. On his time off Clement enjoys the outdoors by boating and jet skiing in the summer. He also enjoys playing video games, his favorite book is Harry Potter, and his favorite T.V. show is the Office. Clement would love to travel more and enjoy that with his family. 4 Unique Roadside attractions in New England

Offbeat venues perfect for photo-ops 

The northeastern states offer a range of experiences and attractions if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary. For those seeking a bit more eccentricity in their lives, these four roadside attractions are sure to satisfy.

Vermontasaurus (Vermont)

Head to Thetford to witness a 122-foot long, 25-foot high dinosaur sculpture comprised of scrap wood. Brian Boland, an experimental balloon pilot, built Vermontasaurus back in 2010 to reuse discarded wood from his balloon manufacturing business. With the help of some volunteers, he nailed each plank together in a haphazard way to construct the spiked body of the dinosaur.

It was almost destroyed due to a zoning issue; however, the structure still remains. A portion of the underbelly collapsed in 2012, but volunteers repaired and slightly modified Vermontasaurus while adding a smaller baby version to keep the original one company.

Ponyhenge (Massachusetts)

Head about 15 miles west of Boston to witness the unique herd of plastic rocking horses and other toy horses that grace Old Sudbury Road in Lincoln. Though it’s a mystery how Ponyhenge got started, it keeps growing every year. As the owner of the property expressed to the Boston Globe in 2015, “There was something lovely about it being anonymous, and now every time we go away, another one appears.” The collection also gets rearranged every now and then — sometimes the horses are in rows, other times they’re in a circle.

Since the location is a bit tricky to locate via GPS, make sure to type in the following address when navigating to this destination: 39 Old Sudbury Rd., Lincoln, MA 01773.

Frog Rock (Connecticut)

Frog Rock is a boulder in Eastford featuring paint designs that resemble a frog. Legend has it that the painting tradition started in the 1880s when Republican state legislature Thomas Thurber passed it on his daily commute from Putnam to Hartford and thought it resembled a frog. Locals have kept up the ritual ever since.

Today, if you visit the special boulder located near the intersection of Highway 198 and Highway 97, you’ll find a food stand, picnic tables, playground and antique shop. Live music and local events — such as the Connecticut Volkswagen Association’s Frog Rock Gathering — are often held here.

International Cryptozoology Museum (Maine)

Portland provides an unusual site claiming to be “the world’s only international cryptozoology museum.” It was founded by Loren Coleman, who accumulated specimens, artifacts and replicas of popular and arcane cryptids over the years. She established a public display to share cryptozoology with Maine inhabitants. As Coleman explained, cryptozoology is “the study of hidden or unknown animals.” Witness the eight-and-a-half-foot tall, 300-pound “Crookston Bigfoot,” a replica of P.T. Barnum’s Feejee Mermaid. You can also browse photos, hair samples and footprint casts of cryptids.

Whether you prefer dinosaurs, mermaids, frog rocks or ponies, you’re bound to have a gratifying adventure at one or more of these locations.
